What is Natural Gas?
CSV Midstream's very own Dan Cote, Director, Projects Engineering outlines the various components present in natural gas.
The CSV Karr Gas Plant
(“CSV Karr” or “Plant”) is located approximately 60 km south of Grande Prairie, Alberta. LSD: 06-18-066-04 W6M
CSV completed a major expansion in Q2 2020 to the facility to increase the Plant’s capacity to 150 million cubic feet per day of gas. The gas processing train of the Plant includes amine sweetening and refrigeration for the recovery of NGL (C3+) products. The expansion also included a major liquids pro cessing expansion to increase the inlet hydrocarbon liquids handling capability to 30,000 barrels per day.
The CSV South Pipestone Compressor Station and Liquids Processing Facility
(“CSV Pipestone” or “Facility”) is a greenfield facility located approximately 40 km southwest of Grande Prairie, Alberta. LSD: 14-17-070-08 W6M
The Facility has an inlet capacity of 60 million cubic feet per day of sour gas compression and dehydration and 7,500 barrels per day of condensate stabilization. The Facility is designed for expansion to 100 million cubic feet per day of gas compression and dehydration and 15,000 barrels per day of condensate stabilization. The site is connected to a third-party gathering system for gas processing and to the Pembina Liquids system for condensate egress
The CSV Resthaven Gas Processing Facility
(“CSV Resthaven” or “the Plant”) is a greenfield facility located approximately 80 km northeast of Grande Cache, Alberta. LSD: 03-16-060-02 W6
Engineering and design for the facility began in October 2016 and the on-site construction of the project began in August 2017. Our design philosophy was highly modular, so the equipment modules, the piperack modules and the interconnected piping between those were all prefabricated ahead of on-site construction. The idea was to simply install and connect these prefabricated modules, minimizing on-site construction time. CSV and its assembled team of contractors were able to get Resthaven through to processing under budget and quicker than average for a gas plant. We attribute our success of this project to our team working together. Overseeing the project, the construction management team was able to co-ordinate logistics, bringing the project to production efficiently and safely.
The Plant has an inlet capacity of 260 million cubic feet per day with a gas processing capacity in excess of 100 Million cubic feet per day. It is equipped with natural gas liquids recovery equipment to produce C5+ (condensate) and future C3+ (LPG) products. The site is connected to the TCPL NGTL Sales Gas Pipeline System with opportunity to connect in the future to the Pembina Liquids system for product egress.
The Plant incorporates a repeatable modular design template which allows CSV to efficiently deliver gas processing solutions for a variety of resource opportunities. CSV Resthaven is underpinned by a long-term contract with an intermediate exploration and production company.

The CSV Simonette Gas Plant
(“CSV Simonette” or “Plant”) is located approximately 110 km southeast of Grande Prairie, Alberta. LSD: 13-11-062–27W5
CSV acquired the Simonette Gas Plant in Q1 2023. CSV Simonette provides dehydration, refrigeration, condensate stabilization and compression services. The Plant’s 100 million cubic feet per day refrigeration facility delivers processed gas to the TC Energy NGTL Sales Gas Pipeline System and the Alliance Pipeline system. CSV Simonette’s refrigeration capacity is rapidly expandable to 120 million cubic feet per day. Stabilized condensate is trucked to Pembina Pipeline’s Lator Facility.
The CSV Valhalla Gas Plant
(“CSV Valhalla” or “Plant”) is located approximately 60 km northwest of Grande Prairie, Alberta. LSD: 13-21-76-09-W6M
CSV acquired the Valhalla Gas Plant in Q1 2023. CSV Valhalla has an inlet capacity of 45 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d), with an operating capacity of 50 MMcf/d and a licensed capacity of 55 MMcf/d. The Plant’s gas processing train includes amine sweetening and refrigeration for the recovery of NGL products. The Plant further provides condensate stabilization, compression, and condensate and NGL storage.
The site is connected to the TC Energy NGTL Sales Gas Pipeline System and the Alliance Pipeline system. Condensate and NGLs are trucked to Pembina Pipeline’s LaGlace Full Service Terminal.
