Executive Vice President & Chief Legal Officer
Leanne Campbell
I began my legal career in Alberta’s energy sector and have spent decades advising and leading through some of the industry’s most complex legal, regulatory, and commercial challenges. After articling in litigation, I joined a pioneering Calgary energy law firm founded on the principle of prosperity for Albertans, where I built a deep practice in energy law during a formative period for the industry. I later spent many years as an external commercial lawyer before moving in-house with Alberta Energy Company (AEC) in 2000. During my time with AEC and its successors, EnCana and Cenovus, I worked on significant energy transactions and strategic initiatives, including the disposition of AECO storage assets and the legal strategy for coal bed methane development, while supporting leadership teams as the company grew into one of Canada’s largest natural gas producers. Following my time on the producer side, I was on a leadership team who built SemCams Midstream into a viable and valuable target for both Energy Transfer and Pembina. My decade there, working in midstream, positioned me to make a difference here at CSV.
In my role, I focus on helping the business move forward with clarity and care. Legal leadership contributes to Creating Shared Value by setting clear expectations, supporting fair and transparent decision-making, and ensuring our commitments to landowners, Indigenous communities, partners, and regulators are met thoughtfully and consistently. I believe strong legal frameworks create the trust that allows long-term relationships to grow and gives the company confidence to make decisions that are responsible, balanced, and enduring.
By completing the Directors Education Program at the Haskayne School of Business, delivered in partnership with the Institute of Corporate Directors, I have strengthened my perspective on effective governance and the role it plays in long-term, responsible decision-making. Outside of work, I value time with family and friends and remain committed to giving back through organizations such as the Wings of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation.
