Position Title: Gas Plant Operator (Power Engineer)

General Accountabilities:
The Sour Gas Plant Operator will be responsible for contributing to the successful operation of our Gas Processing Facility.
Our Albright facility is a 1st class plant that is located near the communities of Beaverlodge and Wembley. The Albright Gas Plant will serve the growing sour natural gas processing needs of multiple producers with Montney and Charlie Lake production in the region and will significantly enhance CSV’s existing platform of natural gas processing infrastructure in Alberta’s prolific Montney play. With a natural gas processing capacity of 150 million cubic feet per day, Albright will also recover and conserve up to 370 tonnes of sulphur per day and will be the first greenfield gas plant with sulphur recovery to be constructed in Alberta in nearly 30 years. Completion is expected in early 2025.
The CSV Karr Gas Plant is a 3rd class facility (that offers 2nd class firing time) located approximately 60km South of Grande Prairie. With natural gas processing capacity of 150 million cubic feet per day, sour gas is processed using amine sweetening, refrigeration and dehydration to recover NGL (C3+) products. The Plant can process crude oil and condensate (C5+) products. Acid gas from the sweetening process is blended with sour raw gas and sent to third-party facilities for further processing. The plant is off-grid and powered by two Siemens Natural Gas turbines.
The operator will work a 7 days on/7 days off cycle, alternating days and nights, consisting of 12-hour shifts. Wednesday – Tuesday.
Please note that this is not a camp position. You must be willing to relocate to Grande Prairie if not already living in the area.
Key Accountabilities:
The Gas Plant Operator will be accountable for the following:
- perform routine operational equipment surveillance, equipment start-up’s and shutdowns
- perform process and equipment troubleshooting
- optimize processes for efficient operation
- manage trades/contractors during scheduled and unscheduled services and repairs
- operate the facility in a safe, economical and efficient manner
- perform housekeeping and maintenance activities
- manage facility production on a daily basis
- participate as a team member and provide mentorship to peers as required
- conduct all activities following Health, Safety, and Environmental policies
- uphold CSV’s values and place a focus on safety
- other duties as assigned
Education and Experience requirements:
The successful candidate will have a minimum of a 4th class steam ticket, registered with ABSA, with 3+ years experience working in a gas plant.
In addition, the successful candidate will have:
- excellent communication skills, a positive attitude and the ability to work effectively in a diverse, team environment
- strong problem-solving and organizational skills
- the ability to adapt to the varying demands of the role
- excellent working knowledge of MS Office
- experience with natural gas compression, refrigeration, Dehydration, Amine and condensate stabilization

Key Accountabilities:
- Provide leadership, direction and mentorship to Gas Plant Operators
- Ensure tasks and job functions are current and effective
- Oversee and ensure all plant processes and process changes
- Ensure employees comply with CSV’s safety protocols
- Ensure employees follow CSV’s reporting requirements for incidents, near misses, hazard identifications etc.
- Support and/or ensure alignment with maintenance procedures and management of change processes
- Review and complete plant inspections
- Model and work with a safety-conscious attitude
- Ensure all required sampling is being completed
- Review and maintain steam and operator logs required by ABSA and AER regulators
- Review invoicing
- Work with management to control expenditures and create budgets
- Work with Engineering to implement the required Management of Change requirements and any changes requiring programming assistance

Education and Experience requirements:
The successful candidate must hold an ABSA 1st class steam ticket (or a 2nd with significant progress towards a 1st), and 10-15+ years’ experience working in a gas plant.
In addition, the successful candidate will have:
- Ideally, an excellent working knowledge of the following, but not limited to: Natural Gas Compression, Gas Sweetening, Refrigeration, Sulphur Recovery, Condensate Stabilization, Steam Generation, and Water Treatment systems
- Proficiency with Emerson Delta-V Automation systems is an asset

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the Summer Student – Engineering is responsible for supporting the Project Engineering team on assigned projects throughout the summer term. This role provides hands-on exposure to engineering work within the company’s gas plants and facilities, supporting project planning, execution, and documentation while gaining practical experience in midstream operations in the Grande Prairie area.
This position is responsible for: Working under the direction of the Chief Engineer, the Summer Student – Engineering supports the planning, documentation, and execution of engineering projects at existing facilities. The role assists with technical analysis, reporting, and cross-functional coordination to ensure projects meet company standards, regulatory requirements, and operational objectives, while gaining practical exposure to midstream operations.
The role enables Creating Shared Value by supporting safe, efficient, and responsible engineering projects that strengthen facility performance, promote operational reliability, and contribute to the sustainable development of energy infrastructure within the communities where the company operates.
Key Accountabilities:
- Project Support: Assist in the planning, designing, and executing engineering projects related to gas plant operations and infrastructure. Work alongside senior engineers to develop and execute on project specifications, schedules, and budgets. Opportunities for field visits may be possible dependent on field tickets and timing.
- Technical Documentation: Help prepare project documentation, including technical reports, drawings, and presentations, to ensure all stakeholders are informed and aligned with project goals and progress.
- Data Analysis: Perform data collection and analysis using Pi Historian to support engineering decisions. Utilize software tools to model project scenarios and predict outcomes. Create reporting tools in our facility historians to help with energy efficiency management and facility accounting.
- Collaboration and Coordination: Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including operations, maintenance, safety, commercial, and environmental departments to ensure projects align with corporate standards and regulatory requirements.
- Continuous Learning: Engage in learning opportunities within the company to deepen knowledge of the midstream gas sector, understand industry trends, and enhance professional skills.
Education and Experience requirements:
- Completion of High School and currently enrolled in an accredited Engineering program, preferably focusing on Chemical, Mechanical, Civil, or Petroleum Engineering.
- Strong academic record and a genuine interest in the midstream oil and gas industry.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and familiar with engineering software, including computer programming languages, Symmetry or Hysis are an asset.
- Willingness and ability to travel to field locations in Grande Prairie as required (flights, accommodations and expenses are included).

Key Accountabilities:
- Review, update training materials and facilitate programs to meet the needs of gas plant operations.
- Ensure training programs comply with all industry regulations and company policies.
- Incorporate new technologies and methodologies into training programs.
- Conduct training sessions for new hires, ongoing training for current employees, and refresher courses.
- Utilize a variety of training methods, including hands-on, classroom, and online training.
- Coordinate with external training providers as necessary.
- Maintain accurate training records and ensure all employees are compliant with mandatory training requirements.

- Certification in training and development (e.g., CTP, CPLP) would be considered an asset but not required.
- Sour Gas Processing education, such as the GPO program, would be considered an asset.
- Experience:
- Strong knowledge and an operational background in natural gas processing is required.
- 3+ years of experience as a training coordinator or similar role in the oil and gas industry.
- Experience in developing and delivering training programs for industrial or technical operations is required.
- Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong knowledge of training methodologies and adult learning principles.
- Intermediate knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
